Station 1: Rooftop

1) Take a look at the architectural structure of the barrage. What are your thoughts and feelings? Why do you think it is built in this way? What are its purposes?

Answer: It could be constructed in such a way that it symbolizes luck, as a recreation area as well as a tourist attraction as it overlooks the Singapore Flyer, one of Singapore’s main tourist attractions.

2) When you reached the rooftop, walk along the pathway designated. What are some of the interesting sights or developments that caught your attention?

Answer: There were many sights and areas that had caught our attention. We saw golf courses, the many scaffoldings and cranes that are currently the foundation and instruments needed to construct the Integrated Resorts of Singapore. We could also see the many cars swiveling left and right on the ECP Highway.

3) Sketching

4) Do you think the physical features or developments that you have sketched are important to Singapore’s economic development? If yes, why? If not, why?Answer: Yes, they are important as they serve as an example of Singapore’s focus on the recreational and tourism businesses for others instead of providing resources.

Station 2:Galley Walk

1) List down some of the problems or challenges that Singapore faces in her development over the years.

Answer: During her development, floods arisen on Singapore’s land, there was a shortage of clean water as the Singapore River had been contaminated beyond recognition. Singapore had a lack of resources as well, leading to the snails’ pace of construction or advance in technology.

2) Classify these problems or challenges into categories, e.g., social, physical, environmental, economical problems

Answer:
Environmental: Flooding, Shortage of Clean Water, River Pollution Economical: Lack of resources.

Answer: Marina Barrage could help in the reduction of flooding within the low-lying areas of Singapore, the Barrage could also serve as reservoir as in the near future, it would help in keeping and the cleansing of water. More of Singapore’s income can be accounted for with the Marina Barrage being a recreational and tourism facility.

Station 3: Platform

1) Sketching

Answer: The feeling was great although the sun had been beating down on us as well as the weather being very humid.

Answer: We can the measure the length of the dam by using the unit of foot. We can walk the length of the dam to apparently estimate and measure the distance of the whole dam.

3) What do you think will happen if there were sudden increase in the water levels on either side of the dam?

Answer: The water would enter the other side of the dam to prevent a huge amount of water from being stuck in an area.

4) What do you think is the purpose of the dam? Give evidence to support your answer.

Answer: The purpose of the dam was in helping in the control of the water within Singapore. The piston gates seen in the layouts of the Barrage seem to justify the fact that it was to be used for controlling the flow of water.

My Reflections On The Trip to Marina Barrage

Pearlyn
Task : put music

I feel that the trip to the Barrage was meaningful as some of us may not have the opportunity to go there as it is not near where we reside and most of us won't have the time to go to such places.
During this trip , my classmates had lots of fun there as the scenary seen was beautiful as well as a great place for photo taking, especially at the rooftop. 8D
The gallery was fun to walk in as it is thoroughly clean and there were some features for us to interact with. This is good as we do not have to walk and look just to learn the history about Singapore, it's rivers as well as the Barrage.
Overall, I thought the trip was quite enjoyable except for the parts where we had to be under the blazing hot sun [:

Task : Did the Question and Answer part
It is important to Singapore’s development as it increases Singapore’s water supply and prevent flooding. It is shaped as the number ‘9’ because in Chinese, it means long or forever, which means that the Barrage will have a long life based on its importance to Singapore. It is also a tourist attraction due to the recreational facilities available.

Task : type out reflections and ' Question and Answer'
The construction of Marina Barrage had helped Singapore in the reduction of floods occurring in Singapore. Other than that, it has also helped to filter the water from the ocean. With its Nine gates, it really controls the water flowing into Singapore from the ocean. It is a great place for tourist to enjoy and admire while they are visiting Singapore.

Marina Barrage is impressive and it will continue on as the epitome of the organizing of land and resources to help in the saving, storing as well as the production of clean water. It would double as the usage of it would actually bring up convenience to the life of Singaporeans on the low-lying areas.

The Marina Barrage had been an inspirational attraction. The trip there was impressive as the information I had read or have analyzed were very informational. Lee Kuan Yew’s innovation of such a building helps in Singapore’s growth and development. The layout was interesting as it posed as a great attraction due to the many views and scenery that can be seen while at the Barrage itself. Many engineers of different perks were brought upon in helping with the construction of the Barrage, the marine life were brought into account as well as ideas were brought into thinking how the Barrage would not interfere with the daily life of the marine animals.
